Now Play This: A Festival of Experimental Game Design What’s Hot | 8th Apr 2022 | 3min read Get ready for London’s leading festival of experimental games — Now Play This, as it returns to Somerset House this spring. Marking its eighth year, the festival will be happening from the 8th to the 10th of April. It will be showcasing the latest global innovations in independent and experimental game design. Expect a weekend of engaging interaction and play for all ages to enjoy. The festival will feature the following experiences: Exhibition There will be a playable exhibition of games exploring the relationship between democracy and game design in the New Wing at Somerset House. Power, decision-making and representation will serve as inspiration for a whole host of solo and multiplayer games — some of which will be available online. Gather round your friends and get ready to play games that challenge the mind and spark your creativity. Design Camp The Design Camp will be bringing together makers, artists, researchers, and activists from all walks of life for a week of creativity, introspections and games. It will focus on exploring how games – from children’s street games to board and video games, digital installations and LARPs can be brought forth by methods of democratic decision making, and how game design plays a part in making them come to life. Games facilitator, Maria Saridaki will be leading the camp. She will be joined by the Now Play This team. There will be workshops with democracy practitioners, Katy Rubin and Jez Hall, as well as remote collaborations with Nibcard Games, who will run a satellite camp in Abuja, Nigeria. Creative coding and game design workshops with Code Coven will also be available, plus inspiration and playtesting support from award-winning game designers, ustwo games. Events Conversations, workshops and live social games will all be part of the events programme running throughout the festival. Some are in-person at Somerset House, some are online, and some will be hybrid. Please note that timed tickets give you access to everything that is happening for a three-hour slot.
